Grant Program is One of Four Pillars in the Firm’s CSR Program
PBMares LLP, a top 100 tax and accounting firm, has launched a new corporate social responsibility platform, PBMares Cares, with an inaugural grant program to support the work of non-profit partners in the communities of the Firm offices’ footprint. The PBMares Cares Corporate Responsibility Program not only provides philanthropic endeavors which support the Firm’s giving mission, but also engages employees to give their time and talent through volunteerism.
In the first year, the PBMares Cares Grant Program awarded over $350,000 to qualifying not-for-profits located in the Firm’s geographic footprint of Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. The program funds nonprofits whose work aligns with the Firm’s giving mission in the areas of Education and Economic Impact. Within each area are two categories:
- Education
o Financial Literacy
o Providing Equitable Access to the Accounting Profession
- Economic Impact
o Supporting Small and Minority-owned businesses
o Providing a pathway to economic success for all
Grants were awarded in three categories for the launch. The fourth category—Field of Accounting—will be awarded in subsequent grant cycles. PBMares Cares will have two open grant cycles in 2022 and interested nonprofits can apply via the website, www.pbmares.com/pbmares-cares .
“The culture of PBMares and its employees has always been to give back to the communities in which we serve,” said Harvey L. Johnson, CEO of PBMares. “We recognize that businesses have a responsibility to help support and strengthen our communities, and through this program we can provide deep and intentional impact in our communities around financial education and economic stability,” he added.

Innovative Philanthropy
PBMares is one of a few innovative companies nationally that offers volunteer grants. When employees donate their time as a team to a nonprofit, the firm amplifies their service with a monetary donation. Nonprofits can request a team to volunteer from among the firm’s 12 locations in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, or an employee can arrange a volunteer event with a nonprofit of their choosing.
PBMares employees are engaged in an array of organizations. During each grant cycle, employees can nominate any qualifying nonprofit to receive an “Employee Giving Grant” and employees vote on the nominees.
“We are committed to making investments that matter in the communities where we live and work. PBMares Cares underscores our commitment to not-for-profits who make enormous contributions in improving our communities and society at large,” said Keith Wampler, Partner of PBMares.
