Annual ranking compiles Virginia’s most influential leaders
Harvey Johnson, Partner and CEO of PBMares, LLP, has been recognized as one of Virginia’s most powerful and influential leaders in Virginia Business’s 2024-25 Power List. This is the fifth annual edition of a ranking that spans 20 major sectors in business, nonprofit, education, healthcare, government, and politics.
Harvey was appointed CEO effective January 1, 2021 when he succeeded long-time CEO and firm co-founder Alan Witt. Harvey, who has spent his entire career with PBMares, was previously a partner in the firm’s cybersecurity practice, which he helped to establish in 2016.
His professional affiliations include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) and the Tidewater Chapter of the VSCPA (TCVSCPA). He is on the Board of Directors of TowneBank Peninsula as well as RVA757 Connects.
In the ranking, Virginia Business noted that Harvey is only the second person to lead PBMares. They also cited his prior leadership as the firm’s practice leader for cybersecurity and financial services and PBMares’ recent expansion of service offerings, like risk advisory, as factors in his inclusion on the list.
To compile the list, Virginia Business editors conduct independent research on career achievements, company revenue and size, the individuals’ scope of responsibilities, community and industry involvement, philanthropy, and more.
